Tax-Advantaged Giving Options

Maximize Your Impact with Smart Giving Strategies

  • Good news for eligible donors!
    Recent tax law changes mean eligible donors can now receive a tax benefit for your charitable gifts—even if you take the standard deduction.

    For the 2026 tax year:

    • Single filers may deduct up to $1,000 in charitable contributions

    • Married couples filing jointly may deduct up to $2,000

    This means your gift to SOAR can now reduce your taxes while supporting music and literacy programs for children.

    Whether you're considering a one-time gift or joining our monthly giving community, your generosity now comes with added tax benefits. Eligibility and the extent of any tax benefit depend on individual circumstances, so donors are encouraged to consult their tax advisor.

    Simple example: A monthly gift of $100 gives you the full $1,000 annual deduction—making a real impact while maximizing your tax savings.

  • GIFTS OF STOCK

    SOAR accepts gifts of publicly traded securities or mutual funds, including tax-advantaged gifts of appreciated stock. Increase the tax efficiency of your gifts by donating appreciated shares of stock directly to SOAR or donating from your IRA tax-free. Strategies like these allow you to contribute funds to SOAR that would otherwise be paid in taxes.

    By transferring stock shares to SOAR, rather than selling them first and donating the proceeds, you avoid paying capital gains tax. This allows SOAR to benefit from your generous gift.

  • GIVE FROM YOUR IRA TAX-FREE

    If you're 70½ or older, you can make a direct charitable distribution from your IRA to SOAR. This powerful giving strategy allows you to:

    • Satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD)

    • Reduce your taxable income

    • Support SOAR's mission of bringing music and literacy to children

    To make an IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution to SOAR, you can use the sample letter below to send to your financial institution:


    SAMPLE LETTER TO YOUR BROKER:

    Dear Sir / Madam:

    RE: Request for Charitable Distribution from IRA Account #__________________.

    Please accept this letter as my request to make a direct charitable distribution from the account referenced above.

    Please issue a check in the amount of $__________________ (not to exceed $108,000) payable to Sing Out and Read, Inc. and mail it to:

    The tax identification number for SOAR is: 80-0731246. In your transmittal to SOAR, please include my name and address as the donor of record in connection with this distribution.     “Bunch” Several Years of Giving Through a Donor-Advised Fund

    You can contribute multiple years of gifts into a DAF now (and take the deduction this year) while making grants to nonprofits over time. Bunching is especially appropriate for year-end 2025 given the more restrictive tax laws that take effect in 2026.

    Consider Complex Gifts

    Many donors take advantage of the year-end to contribute real estate, business interests, or retirement assets. These gifts may reduce capital gains or estate taxes.
