From tablet delivery to celebration: How our young readers exceeded expectations and earned tablets to keep in just 12 weeks!

The Beginning: Tablet Delivery Day

Every great reading journey has a beginning. For our First Tee Spring ‘25 cohort, it began on February 22, 2025. The excitement was contagious as we distributed tablets to launch the First Tee Spring ‘25 cohort. Our tablets were successfully placed in eager hands, each carefully selected for optimal learning and engagement.

This was the official start of a 12-week journey that would transform how these young learners approached reading and literacy.

12 Weeks of Growth

Starting February 24th, the cohort embarked on their literacy journey under FLiP Coach Nicole Nouri's guidance. Through our unique sing-to-read methodology, students worked toward the meaningful goal of completing 900 minutes of program usage – a benchmark that typically results in at least one full reading grade level improvement. As an added incentive, students who reached this milestone earned a high-quality tablet to keep as their own.

Exceptional Results

By the program's conclusion on May 19th, the results exceeded all expectations. These numbers represent young readers who not only met program goals but exceeded them, building confidence and developing skills through our innovative sing-to-read approach.

100% completion rate among continuing participants

Only 6% attrition rate, demonstrating exceptional engagement

ALL students surpassed the 900-minute benchmark – the threshold typically associated with at least one full reading grade level improvement

Several students doubled that achievement, reaching 1,800+ minutes of engaged reading practice

The Completion: Award Ceremony and Celebration

Three months later, the transformation was complete. The culmination was a special award ceremony and wrap-up celebration on May 24th at the University Area Community Development Corporation, bringing together students, families, First Tee leadership, and our team to honor these remarkable achievements.

What made this celebration so special? Every single participant had not only met but exceeded the 900-minute goal that earned them their tablets to keep. Each student's progress was meticulously tracked through detailed quiz scores and reading minutes, creating a full picture of their literacy growth from the first day with their tablets to this moment of triumph.
